Char-cool

Finished Coffee, Tea and Wine. Decided to dedicate it to Crystal, since its every beverage we enjoy together (sans beer). Still getting used to charcoals as a medium, which I am discovering is very tricky to make look good and make look right. Our next project for Chiaroscuro will be to recreate an old image of a Hollywood movie star with really dramatic lighting. Ive made a compilation of the ones I was considering, and for a few weeks I had my mind set on Anna there, shes relatively easy, its a very sexy picture, but the more I think about it the more I want to push myself. Which is also really scary because I want to do well on this project, and not mess everything up... In any case I think Im going to go with Nicole Kidman on this one. (digging a huge hole?)

At the moment I am struggling through plotting out shadows in a very technical manner in perspective, for that street scene. You can check out the example from our class blog here, http://ill625.blogspot.com/ if you happen to understand it please let me know, so you can help me out. >_< In other news!! Apoptygma Berzerk came to town last night, the last leg of their tour! I cant believe I finally got to see them live! Amazing show, great performers, cool guys! Awesomeness!

Remember, Sarah, you're here to learn...

So, as well as feeling like Im in some sort of disembodied state all day due to lack of sleep (and amazingly visionary Muse music), I also had a pretty frustrating "technical difficulty" type of day. I cant get it right when it comes to thinking in a technical manner in subjects like head drawing, shadows, and perspective. Before I lay down the good stuff, I'll share some little "mascots", as Kristin calls them, that I doodle up when I cant go any farther on an idea or project.

Wow I really need to learn to scale down my images, eh?

Turned in the street scene tonight. I think it turned out pretty cool, it was definitely one of the most imaginative in the class. As the teacher says, I get an "A for Imagination." (fist pump) I'll just post the progression from thumbs to final so you can see all the majesty! There's a lot to fix, because perspective does indeed kick my ass, but we get to fix our mistakes and work on lighting for next week. Commence art overload.

(I dont know why the thumbs doesnt appear horizontally, and I dont know how to fix it, >_< )
Back to my still life of coffee, tea, and wine.

It's four o'clock in the morning, damnit...

I've been swept into a glorious world of music and perspective- yes, perspective (though I must admit I'm no master at it, still struggling...) Muse's new album is FANTASTIC and I can't stop listening to it, which is a good thing since I'm still working on this project for Drawing from Imagination. I had a lot of different ideas, but seemed to settle on this one. If you have Astria, she will fit nicely into this scene, as this would be something from her world. Here's what I have so far... Holy shit, did I draw that? @_@

Getting it started...

So here I am, doing this blog thing. Still not exactly sure why, probably because its an easy way to keep my friends and family updated...? (contemplative pause) Anyway, I am by no means a web designer / html wizard, and I am having a bit of trouble coming up with a nice, simple, unique layout for my space. Any ideas? Any one wanna send me some code?

I'll start loading this baby up with adventurous stories and photos from class soon- oh, I suppose I should let those of you who haphazardly wandered into this blog on accident, yet remained to read this far know that I am currently getting my masters from AAU in Illustration. (jubilation) I'll be using this blog as a virtual art dump, and hopefully get a good basis for my thesis journal. So for now, I'll leave you with a wip completely un-school related, I think it adds more color to this place.
